Folding scissor manufacturers

When sourcing folding scissors, the blade material is paramount. You should prioritize Stainless Steel (Grade 304 or 420) to ensure corrosion resistance and long-term edge retention. For the handles, look for zinc alloy or high-impact ABS plastic to ensure the folding mechanism does not crack under pressure. A mirror-polished or brushed finish is recommended to prevent rusting in humid environments.

The pivot point is the most common failure zone. Ensure the scissors feature a reinforced rivet or a screw-adjustable tension system. The folding action should be smooth but firm, with a locking mechanism (such as a snap-fit or sliding lock) to prevent accidental deployment or closure during use. For B2B bulk orders, request a cycle test report demonstrating the mechanism can withstand at least 5,000 folds without loosening.

Depending on the target market, compliance is critical. For the US, ensure the product meets CPSIA standards if marketed for school use. For the EU, REACH compliance is necessary to ensure no harmful chemicals (like lead or cadmium) are present in the metal or plastic coatings. If the scissors are intended for first-aid kits, they may need to meet ISO 13485 medical device quality management standards.

Design varies by application: Travel/EDC (Everyday Carry) scissors should be ultra-compact with a keychain hole; Medical/Nursing folding scissors require blunt tips (Lister type) to prevent skin injury; and Craft/Sewing versions need tapered points for precision. Ensure the finger loops are ergonomically designed to accommodate different hand sizes to improve user comfort.

Always request a pre-production sample and conduct a third-party pre-shipment inspection (PSI). Focus on the sharpness consistency across the batch and the alignment of the blades. Using platforms like Made-in-China.com allows you to select Audited Suppliers, which reduces the risk of dealing with non-compliant factories.

Folding scissors are high-volume items. Aim for a tiered pricing structure where the unit price drops by 15-20% when moving from 1,000 to 5,000 units. Negotiate for customized packaging (blister cards or tin boxes) to be included in the price for large orders, as this adds significant retail value with minimal manufacturing cost increase.

Since scissors are sharp, they must be packed in heavy-duty inner boxes to prevent piercing the outer carton during transit. Ensure the supplier uses desiccant silica gel packs in every master carton to prevent oxidation or surface spotting during sea freight, especially when crossing high-humidity tropical zones.

Check the HS Code (typically 8213.00) for specific import duties in your country. Be aware that some regions have anti-dumping duties on certain stainless steel products. Ensure all commercial invoices clearly state the material composition to avoid customs delays or misclassification fines.
