Crab price manufacturers

The price is primarily driven by species (e.g., King Crab, Snow Crab, Blue Swimmer), size/grading, and processing method. Live crabs command the highest premium due to logistics risks and mortality rates, while frozen sections (clusters) or canned meat prices depend on net weight versus glazing percentage. Seasonal fluctuations and harvesting quotas in specific fishing zones also cause significant price volatility.

Buyers must prioritize suppliers with HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and ISO 22000 certifications. For international trade, a Health Certificate issued by the exporting country's authority is mandatory. If you are targeting eco-conscious markets, look for MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) certification to ensure the crabs are sustainably sourced and legally caught.

Glazing is the protective ice layer on frozen seafood. A common industry pitfall is buying low-price products with 20-30% glazing, which significantly inflates the price per kilogram of actual meat. Always negotiate based on Net Weight (excluding ice) rather than Gross Weight to ensure economic feasibility and price transparency.

For live shipments, the survival rate is the critical KPI. Suppliers must use oxygenated packaging, temperature-controlled containers (usually 2-8°C), and moisture-retaining materials like wood shavings or specialized foam. Ensure the supplier provides a mortality rate guarantee (typically allowing for 5-10% loss) and uses expedited air freight to minimize transit time.

The biggest risks include quality degradation during transit and customs rejection due to improper documentation. To mitigate this, use Trade Assurance services on Made-in-China.com and insist on third-party pre-shipment inspections (like SGS or BV) to verify weight, freshness, and species authenticity before the balance payment is made.

Focus on Volume-Based Pricing and Long-term Supply Contracts to hedge against seasonal price spikes. Request FOB (Free On Board) terms if you have a reliable cold-chain forwarder, or CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) if you want the supplier to handle the complex logistics. Always clarify the repayment/refund policy for Dead on Arrival (DOA) units in the contract.

You must ensure the supplier is registered with the customs of the destination country (e.g., FDA for the US, GACC for China). All packaging must feature clear labeling including the scientific name, origin, production date, and expiration date. Failure to align with International Trade Policies and sanitary requirements will result in the shipment being destroyed or returned at the buyer's expense.

Look for Audited Suppliers who have undergone on-site inspections. Check their export history and specifically look for Gold Member status. Reviewing their production capacity and cold storage facilities via video audit can prevent dealing with middle-men who cannot guarantee consistent quality or stable pricing.
