Kelp powder manufacturers

When evaluating Kelp Powder, you must prioritize purity, particle size, and nutrient density. High-quality powder should have a consistent olive-green to brownish-green color and a distinct marine aroma. Ensure the mesh size (typically 80-200 mesh) aligns with your application, whether it is for dietary supplements, animal feed, or cosmetic formulations. Most importantly, verify the Alginic Acid content (usually ≥15%) and Iodine levels, as these are the primary active compounds.

For food or supplement grade Kelp Powder, suppliers must provide ISO 22000 or HACCP certifications to ensure food safety management. If you are targeting the health-conscious market, look for USDA Organic or EU Organic certifications. Additionally, because kelp naturally absorbs minerals from the ocean, it is critical to request Third-Party Lab Test Reports verifying that Heavy Metals (Lead, Arsenic, Mercury, Cadmium) are within the safety limits set by the destination country's FDA or EFSA.

The drying process is vital; Low-Temperature Spray Drying or Air Drying is preferred over high-heat methods to preserve heat-sensitive vitamins and enzymes. You should also inquire if the kelp is 'Cell-Wall Broken', a process that significantly increases the bioavailability of nutrients for human or animal consumption. Ensure the moisture content is kept below 10-12% to prevent microbial growth and extend shelf life.

Kelp powder is categorized into three main grades: Food Grade, used in functional foods and seasonings; Feed Grade, used as a mineral supplement in aquaculture and livestock; and Fertilizer Grade, used as an organic soil conditioner. Ensure your supplier understands the specific End-Use Scenario to provide the correct concentration of minerals and avoid overpaying for unnecessary refinement.

Always request a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) and a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every specific batch. It is highly recommended to use Made-in-China.com's Secured Trading services to ensure that payment is only released once the quality benchmarks, particularly heavy metal limits, are verified by an independent inspector like SGS or Intertek.

Focus on Volume-Based Pricing and long-term contracts. Since kelp harvesting is seasonal, you can secure lower rates by signing Annual Supply Agreements during peak harvest seasons. Negotiate for Free Samples (50g-100g) before placing a bulk order to test solubility and odor, and ask for a 5-10% discount on MOQs exceeding 1 metric ton.

Kelp powder is highly hygroscopic (absorbs moisture). Ensure the supplier uses Double-Layer PE inner bags inside a Fiber Drum or Kraft Paper Bag to prevent clumping and mold. For sea freight, specify the use of desiccants inside the container and ensure the pallets are heat-treated (ISPM 15 compliant) to avoid customs delays.

Check the HS Code (typically 1212.21 or 1212.29) for specific import duties in your country. Some regions require a Phytosanitary Certificate issued by the exporting country's customs authority. Working with verified gold suppliers on Made-in-China.com can simplify this, as experienced exporters are familiar with providing the necessary Origin Certificates (Form A or Form E) to help you claim preferential tariff rates.
