Water blocking yarn manufacturers

When evaluating Water Blocking Yarn (WBY), you must prioritize swell speed and swell height. A high-quality yarn should reach its maximum swelling capacity within 30 to 60 seconds to effectively prevent water ingress in fiber optic or power cables. Additionally, verify the tensile strength (measured in N) and elongation at break, as the yarn must withstand the high-speed tension of cable longitudinal wrapping processes without snapping. For dry-type cables, ensure the dusting rate is minimized to prevent contamination of the production environment.

Suppliers must provide RoHS and REACH certification to ensure the superabsorbent polymers (SAP) and polyester carriers are free from hazardous substances. For telecommunications applications, the yarn should meet Telcordia GR-20-CORE requirements, particularly regarding hydrogen generation and fungal resistance, to ensure the long-term integrity of optical fibers. Always request a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) to verify chemical stability during long-term storage.

The denier (e.g., 1500D, 3000D, 6000D) directly impacts the water-blocking capacity per meter. Heavier deniers provide more SAP content but increase cable diameter. You should choose between O-type (round) and F-type (flat) yarns based on your cable geometry. Flat yarns are often preferred for better coverage in longitudinal taping, while round yarns are easier to process in high-speed stranding. Ensure the SAP distribution is uniform to avoid 'weak spots' where water could bypass the block.

Water Blocking Yarn is primarily used in Optical Fiber Cables (OFC), Submarine Cables, and Power Cables. For outdoor or underground deployments, the yarn must demonstrate thermal stability up to 100°C to withstand the heat generated during the secondary coating or jacketing extrusion process. Furthermore, check the saltwater swelling capacity if the product is intended for maritime environments, as standard SAP performs significantly worse in saline conditions compared to deionized water.

Request a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) and specifically ask for a water absorption test report for each batch. Since WBY is highly sensitive to humidity, ensure the supplier uses vacuum-sealed moisture-proof packaging with desiccant silica gel. On Made-in-China.com, prioritize Audited Suppliers who have undergone third-party onsite verification of their manufacturing facilities and QC labs.

Price is heavily influenced by the price of polyester base yarn and SAP chemicals. Negotiate based on annual volume contracts rather than spot buys to secure stable pricing. For new projects, request a sample roll (approx. 1-2kg) for trial runs on your production line before committing to a full container. Many top-tier suppliers on Made-in-China.com offer tiered pricing where a 15-20% discount is achievable for orders exceeding 5 tons.

Water Blocking Yarn is hydrophilic by design, meaning any exposure to sea air or humidity during transit can ruin the product. Insist on FCL (Full Container Load) shipping whenever possible to reduce handling, and ensure the pallets are shrink-wrapped with multiple layers of PE film. Store the yarn in a cool, dry warehouse (humidity <50%) upon arrival, and use the First-In-First-Out (FIFO) inventory method to ensure optimal performance.

Utilize Secured Trading Services provided by Made-in-China.com to protect your payment until the shipping documents are verified. Ensure the HS Code (typically 5402 or 5607) is correctly declared to avoid customs delays or incorrect duty applications. Be aware of anti-dumping duties that some regions (like the EU or USA) may apply to specific synthetic fiber products originating from certain manufacturing hubs.
