Fresh lemon price manufacturers

Quality evaluation should focus on external appearance, juice content, and acidity levels. Buyers should prioritize lemons with firm, thin skins and a bright yellow color, as these typically yield more juice. Ensure the products meet Class I or Class Extra standards under international benchmarks like UNECE FFV-19. Key indicators include a minimum juice content of 20-25% and the absence of skin defects, bruising, or 'peteca' spots which can accelerate decay during transit.

Fresh produce is strictly regulated to prevent the spread of pests. Suppliers must provide a Phytosanitary Certificate issued by their national plant protection organization. Depending on the destination (e.g., EU, USA, or Middle East), you may require GlobalG.A.P. certification for good agricultural practices and HACCP for food safety. Ensure the lemons are free from Citrus Black Spot (Phyllosticta citricarpa) and Canker, as these can lead to immediate shipment rejection by customs.

To maintain freshness for 6 to 8 weeks, lemons must be stored at a constant temperature of 10°C to 12°C (50°F to 54°F) with a relative humidity of 85-90%. Avoid temperatures below 7°C to prevent chilling injury. Additionally, verify if the supplier uses food-grade waxing (such as polyethylene or shellac) and post-harvest fungicides (like Imazalil or Thiabendazole) to reduce moisture loss and prevent mold growth during long-sea voyages.

Cost-efficiency is driven by seasonality and volume. Sourcing from the Southern Hemisphere (e.g., South Africa, Argentina) during the Northern Hemisphere's off-season helps stabilize supply. For bulk orders, FOB (Free On Board) pricing is often more economical if you have a reliable freight forwarder. Always calculate the landed cost, including the refrigerated container (Reefer) premiums, which can significantly impact the final unit price compared to standard dry cargo.

The biggest risks are perishability and price volatility. To mitigate these, use Made-in-China.com's verified supplier system to find reputable exporters. Implement third-party pre-shipment inspections (e.g., SGS or Bureau Veritas) to verify fruit size, count, and quality before the container is sealed. Ensure your contract includes a quality claim clause based on the condition of the fruit upon arrival at the port of discharge.

Lemons should be packed in telescopic corrugated fiberboard boxes or plastic crates with adequate ventilation holes to allow airflow. Standard export weights are usually 15kg or 18kg per carton. For shipping, always utilize Reefer Containers with Controlled Atmosphere (CA) technology to manage oxygen and carbon dioxide levels, which slows the ripening process and extends the fruit's travel life.

For new supplier relationships, avoid 100% upfront payments. Utilize Letters of Credit (L/C) or Escrow-based payment terms offered through professional platforms like Made-in-China.com. This ensures that funds are only released or guaranteed once the supplier provides the Bill of Lading (B/L) and the required Phytosanitary documentation, protecting the buyer from non-delivery or fraud.
