Eyewear optical frame manufacturers

When sourcing optical frames, material choice directly impacts durability and comfort. Cellulose Acetate is preferred for premium aesthetics and hypoallergenic properties. For lightweight performance, Titanium or Beta-Titanium offers superior strength-to-weight ratios and corrosion resistance. For budget-friendly or sports lines, TR-90 (Thermoplastic Polyamide) is ideal due to its flexibility and impact resistance. Ensure metal frames use nickel-free plating to prevent skin irritation.

Compliance is non-negotiable in the eyewear industry. You must ensure products meet ISO 12870:2016, which specifies fundamental requirements for unglazed spectacle frames. For the US market, frames must be FDA Registered as Class I medical devices. For the EU, CE Marking and compliance with EN ISO 12312-1 are mandatory. Always request Lead and Phthalate content test reports to meet REACH or CPSIA standards.

Focus on the moving parts and structural integrity. Request information on hinge durability tests (typically requiring 20,000+ cycles). Check for bridge deformation resistance and temple pull-out strength. For acetate frames, verify if they are hand-polished rather than spray-coated to ensure the finish doesn't peel over time. High-quality frames should feature wire-core temples to allow for professional adjustment by opticians.

A professional supplier should offer CAD/3D prototyping services to visualize designs before mold-making. Look for capabilities in laser engraving for branding on the inner temples and customized nose pad options (e.g., adjustable metal pads vs. integrated acetate pads) to suit different regional facial structures, such as Asian Fit vs. European Fit.

Implement a multi-stage inspection process. Start with a Pre-Production Sample (PPS) that is sealed and used as the gold standard. For bulk production, hire a third-party agency to conduct a During Production Check (DUPRO) and a Final Random Inspection (FRI). Focus specifically on lens groove consistency and frame symmetry, as minor deviations can make lens insertion impossible for retailers.

Focus on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) rather than just the unit price. Negotiate for spare parts inclusion (e.g., extra screws, nose pads, and branded cloths) which usually adds little cost to the manufacturer but high value to you. Discuss MOQ flexibility; many suppliers will allow you to split a 300-unit MOQ across 3-4 different colorways of the same mold.

Eyewear is prone to pressure damage and scratches. Insist on individual polybags or protective sleeves for each frame, packed in divided inner boxes (usually 10-20 units per box). Ensure the outer cartons are double-walled corrugated fiberboard with a burst strength rating. For high-value titanium frames, consider Air Freight to reduce handling time and moisture exposure compared to sea freight.

Utilize Secured Payment services provided by Made-in-China.com to ensure funds are only released upon proof of shipment. Verify the supplier's Export License specifically for medical devices if required by your local customs. Be aware of Anti-Dumping Duties that some regions (like the EU) may apply to specific types of frames originating from certain manufacturing hubs.
