Ceramic frit manufacturers

When evaluating ceramic frit, you must prioritize the Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (COE) to ensure compatibility with the ceramic body and prevent crazing or peeling. Additionally, verify the melting temperature range and particle size distribution (mesh size), as these directly impact the smoothness and gloss of the final glaze. For industrial applications, request data on acid and alkali resistance to ensure the durability of the finished product.

Compliance is critical, especially regarding heavy metal content. Ensure the supplier provides SGS or Intertek test reports confirming that Lead (Pb) and Cadmium (Cd) release levels meet the standards of the destination country, such as FDA regulations for the US or REACH and RoHS for the EU. For food-contact ceramics, specifically request transparent or lead-free frits with accompanying safety data sheets (SDS).

Transparent frits are essential for highlighting underglaze decorations and achieving high-gloss finishes. Opaque (Zirconium-based) frits are used to mask the color of the clay body, providing a clean white base. Matte frits contain higher concentrations of alkaline earths (like Calcium or Magnesium) to create a non-reflective, satin texture. Choosing the right type depends on your aesthetic requirements and the firing atmosphere (oxidizing vs. reducing).

Professional B2B buyers should look for suppliers with ISO 9001 certification. Request a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every batch to check for consistency in chemical composition (e.g., percentage of SiO2, B2O3, and Al2O3). It is highly recommended to order a 5-10kg sample for a trial firing in your specific kiln environment before committing to a container-load order.

The biggest risk is moisture contamination and packaging rupture during sea transit, which can cause clumping. Ensure the supplier uses moisture-proof inner linings and reinforced Jumbo bags (1-1.2 tons) or 25kg PP bags on fumigated pallets. To mitigate transaction risks, use Made-in-China.com's Secured Trading services to ensure payment is only released upon verification of shipping documents.

Ceramic frit is a volume-sensitive commodity. Negotiate based on annual volume rather than single orders to secure 'Tier 1' pricing. Typical MOQs start at 1-5 tons, but for customized chemical formulas, the MOQ may be higher. Ask for FOB (Free On Board) pricing to maintain control over your ocean freight costs, and inquire if the supplier offers volume-based rebates for long-term partnerships.

Ceramic frit is generally classified as a non-hazardous chemical, but you must provide the HS Code (usually 3207.20) to your customs broker early. Ensure the supplier provides a Non-Hazardous Cargo Declaration and a complete Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) in English to avoid delays during port inspections. For shipping to regions with strict environmental laws, ensure the packaging is recyclable or biodegradable.
