Wholesale angelica manufacturers

When sourcing Angelica, prioritize root thickness, color, and aroma. High-quality Angelica should have a large, fleshy head (root stock) with few lateral roots. The cross-section should be yellowish-white to light brown with a visible cambium ring. A strong, sweet, and pungent aroma is a primary indicator of high volatile oil content, which is essential for its medicinal efficacy.

Buyers must request lab reports confirming the levels of Ferulic Acid (the marker compound for quality) and Ligustilide. According to pharmacopoeia standards (such as the ChP or USP), the moisture content should not exceed 15% to prevent mold, and total ash should be below 7%. Ensure the product is free from sulfur fumigation, as 'sulfur-free' Angelica is the international standard for premium health products.

Compliance depends on the end-use (food, supplement, or medicine). You must ensure the supplier provides Phytosanitary Certificates and adheres to GAP (Good Agricultural Practices). For the US market, FDA registration and GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status are vital; for the EU, compliance with EC No 396/2005 regarding pesticide residues and heavy metal limits (Lead, Cadmium, Mercury) is mandatory.

Whole roots generally preserve volatile oils better and have a longer shelf life, making them ideal for long-distance sea freight. Machine-cut slices offer convenience for retail packaging but are more susceptible to oxidation. If purchasing slices, ensure they are uniform in thickness (2-3mm) and have been low-temperature dried to maintain their bioactive profile.

Always mandate third-party testing (SGS, Eurofins, or Intertek) before the balance payment is released. Specifically, test for organochlorine pesticides and heavy metals like Arsenic and Lead, which can accumulate in root herbs. Sourcing from certified organic bases or suppliers on Made-in-China.com with verified ISO 22000 or HACCP certifications significantly reduces these biological risks.

Angelica prices fluctuate based on harvest seasons (typically autumn) and market demand. Negotiate based on volume tiers; for example, a 500kg order may yield a 10-15% discount compared to a 100kg trial. Ask for tiered pricing based on Ferulic Acid content. To secure transaction safety, use Trade Assurance or Letters of Credit (L/C) for large-scale wholesale transactions.

Angelica is sensitive to heat and humidity. For trans-oceanic shipping, use vacuum-sealed PE bags inside sturdy corrugated cartons or wooden crates. Request moisture-proof lining and, if shipping to tropical regions, consider reefer containers (refrigerated) set at 5-10°C to prevent the loss of volatile oils and the growth of insects or mold.

Cross-reference the supplier’s business license with their export permit. On Made-in-China.com, look for 'Audited Suppliers' who have undergone on-site inspections. Request the original scan of the Phytosanitary Certificate and verify the batch number against the Certificate of Analysis (COA) provided with your specific shipment.
